Start with the water source

Repeated sprinkler overspray usually leaves a different pattern than salts emerging from within the concrete. Location, edge shape, nearby emitters, walls, and drainage provide the first clues.

Acid is not a universal answer

Material-specific mineral treatments can alter concrete, grout, metal, plants, coatings, and surrounding finishes. A product should never be selected from stain color alone.

Set the improvement boundary

A test area can show whether the condition responds, whether the surface changes with it, and whether the improvement is worth extending.

  • Compare under similar light
